The year is flying by and this month’s 20th issue of Kid Magazine is now available on your virtual news stands. As a Sydney kids editorial photographer, even now, 4 issues into this dream gig I still get a buzz to see my work featured! As a creative person every time I shoot something I am putting a little piece of myself into the job so hearing people say how much they love the kids editorial photography I am producing for this fab title will never get old!
This months theme is Kids in the Kitchen and it was exciting to venture indoors and produce something new after our last few editorial shoots being outside. Clever Editor Sara Keli came up with this concept of an editorial meets recipe concept so we embraced the chaos that is letting children cook and the results are fun, fresh and delicious!
As a Sydney kids editorial photographer I am always excited when a client brings a new idea to me. I immediately recalled the cool ingredients presentation idea of texta and brown paper I’d had stored in the memory bank for the right opportunity! It’s always thrilling to work with a client who wants to hear your input and Sara is a great partner in bouncing ideas for a shoot. From previous woodland shoots, summer shoots and outdoor games theme shoots she and I enjoy working together.
I am absolutely in love with this little cover model, her smattering of freckles just makes me smile with delight. All the kids in this shoot were gorgeous and really enjoyed being able to get themselves down and dirty making banana muffins and kid’s quiches. Of course their favourite part was in tasting the end results, but I can relate to that myself…
Casting models for a children’s fashion shoot is always a challenging job. Many of my clients trust me to do my own casting (with my stylist) however for other jobs a client will source their own talent. As a photographer I am able to know what looks work well on camera and I am always happy to work to a client brief. Some clients love models that look like they could all be family, other clients seek the most extreme diversification as possible. Shooting Sydney kids editorial photography is my passion and whether my clients need ‘just’ a skilled photographer or someone who can do everything for them and lighten the load I and my expert team can do this for. In closing – another month, another issue, something once again I am delighted to have produced. Of course, I always like to shout out to my favourite featured brands and this month I am totally loving Me Too Please, Pixie Bows, Oobi, Just Jack, Cotton On Kids and Jane Harbison Design. What a great round up of kids fashion!
