When working on a Kids Editorial Shoot Sydney some brands just tell you exactly what they need. When I opened this fabulous delivery of swimwear from Babes in the Shade I knew immediately the only place to do these gorgeous products justice was to head to the beach! With the perfect models sourced, just the right accessories, an ideal location and the sun beyond glorious I knew all the right elements were in place for an amazing Sydney summer swimwear shoot.
Babes in the Shade is a Australian swimwear label and this was the right products to add a little styling with over-sized up dos, cool sunglasses and adorable top nots to enhance the imagery. Enough details to build a cohesive look across the pictures but the swimwear – importantly – still remained the hero on the day.
That’s a great side tip to talk about as I type this and something I am often asked, my thoughts on styling…. As a kids fashion designer when commissioning kids editorial shoots or kids fashion shoots you know your own product. Stylists can add a lot of value to a shoot, they know how to put together looks, make the clothes look best on the models and support the photographer in achieving amazing images. Stylists however can also get really excited and want to ‘over work’ your shoot. Styling is great but the emphasis must remain on your product and keeping the integrity of your design.
And that’s where we come back to this shoot; I am just delighted with the overall look as it enhances the product and nothing else. Just how I think styling should be!
