When I decided to embark on my 365. grateful. journey, I put in an order for some more Fuji Instax Mini Polaroid film as I was running low. I was super excited to receive my package a few days later, and I did exactly what I keep promising myself I won’t do anymore, yet I seem to break that promise every time I get new film.. The promise being “I will NOT take photo’s of myself with the first pack of film and waste it when I am suppose to be using it for more exciting things”. So yes once again I got a little snap happy with myself as the subject. Oh who am I kidding… it was FUN and I know it’s going to happen again and again!

Anyone want a free polaroid of me?? I have plenty to spare! ;)

Too often we take things for granted (yep we have all heard that before), small things, big things, medium things, the every day. Recently while looking at Sydney Harbour Bridge I realised that in my 25 years in Sydney (my whole life) I had never really stopped and appreciated what a wonderful city I live in. I always took it for granted.

So on 29th July, my 25th birthday, I began my quest to photograph something I am grateful for, every.single.day.for.one.whole.year!

I will be using any medium possible to capture what I am grateful for, my phone, my mini Polaroid, my SLR, my point and shoot! If you click on the 365 Grateful link on the menu bar above you will be taken to view my grateful images so far. I will be stopping frequent uploads while traveling for 6 weeks but I will not stop being grateful and photographing every day, I will catch you up when I return on 2nd October :)

I hope this inspires you to stop, look around and be grateful.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is hands down my favourite book, I first received a copy from a young man about 6 years ago, he said it would change me… It did.

I took this book on my trip around Europe 5 years ago and it kept me company along the way, I read it a total of four times, each time it was like reading a new book. When I was thinking about which book to take on my upcoming travels of South East Asia, I knew right away this would be one of them, for sentimental travel reasons and being such a great book. I will be tucking it into my bag this Saturday morning as I leave for the airport. I couldn’t find my original copy from 5 years ago so I purchased a new copy today :)

The boy said to me “why don’t you read a new book?” a simple answer “because I love this one”.

I needed to pick just a couple of favourites to blog from yesterdays session with this gorgeous family, well as usual I couldn’t pick just a couple, I was up late last night editing as I ooohed and aaahhed over shots, so many great moments between this family captured and so little blog space :) So I have selected just a few of my favourites.

I love photographing a family that just… just…. ummm, I seriously can’t find the word… ooze love? ok that sounds wrong, radiate love? hmm better. This family did just that and made our job so easy to capture those moments. Haley, Josh and their cousin Ella are just beautiful, we could have photographed them all day.

It was so lovely to meet you all, I drove home yesterday with a big smile on my face as I was so happy to have met you and to have had the honour of taking your first professional family portrait since 1985 was it? :D

The last shots is my toe-tingling favourite… it’s the eyes :) Happy 5th Birthday Josh

No I am not joing the Navy haha, I am off to South East Asia for 6 weeks of busy travel ending in a week of relaxation in Koh Phangan, Thailand.

Yep, I finally found somewhere to go, someone to go with and it’s all booked in! As I mentioned before, I had the time off but nowhere to go and no one to travel with, and in my previous post about my dilemma I mentioned that I was sending an SOS email to my friend in San Francisco hoping he would be able to help, well Chris came to the rescue not only helping me decide where to go but he is now my travel companion.

So.. Next Saturday 21st August I fly out of Sydney (on an Airbus A380 woooo) after 9 hours I land in Singapore for 3 nights to visit my friend Mark, then off to Bangkok fora lovely reunion with Chris (going for the slow motion run though the airport for dramatic effect haha) the next morning we fly to Vietnam spend 12 days traveling around Vietnam then back to Bangkok for the night then 14 days though Thailand, Laos and Cambodia then off to Phuket for 2 nights then 10 days on beautiful Koh Phangan soaking up the sun and sipping cocktails. Bliss!

I will be on my email every few days and will update the blog whenever possible though I do warn you, I may be having too much fun and not find the time ;) I will be back October 2nd ready to jump right into wedding season. I am of course taking my camera and hope to come back with loads of beautiful photos from my time away.

I leave you with a photo taken on the Greek Island of Ios, where I met the lovely Chris and his wonderful brother Steve, exactly 5 years ago!

Like a kid on Christmas morning!

That’s how I was when I received me new sample albums this morning, I went for a run and when I got back I found the parcel on my front door step, I was struggling for breath all sweaty and gross but I couldn’t wait, I sat on the front step and ripped my parcel open and found these gorgeous albums. A 5×5 newborn ‘brag book’ and a 10×10 coffee table book from this session. So excited!

Meet Tiggy and Bong Bong.

When my friend Sarah mentioned she was getting another Chihuahua puppy I jumped at the chance photograph her, Bong Bong is just 6 weeks old and SO UNBELIEVABLY CUTE! So itty bitty with big dumbo ears, which are still tiny but look big on her. She has a spring in her step and is still totally uncoordinated (awwww) but has ‘big’ brother Tiggy to teach her the ropes and keep her in line.

I tried my best to smuggle her back to my car but to no avail, I am not sure how my Wynston would have coped with her being around. I was able to get my puppy fix for a couple of hours so that should hold me off until my next puppy session.

Just looooook at how teeny tiny she is. Making me clucky, for a puppy!

You may remember this sassy sista! Well Saskia turned 25 last Friday and we headed out to celebrate, actually we first stayed in then we not so anonymously voted who was up for going out, we eventually made our way to Cargo Bar VIP, which doesn’t seem to be very VIP anymore haha we had some drinks and danced the night away. There was a photobooth at the enterence to the bar so I dragged Sas away for a moment to get some silly snaps done, the machine ate our second lot of pics which we were totally bummed about but I am so happy we got these!

Now that Gemma’s mummy and daddy have seen all their images from last weeks session, I thought I would show you some more from our session. As you can see Gemma loves to poke her tongue out, so cute, but it was hard to find images where she doesn’t have it out, hey I’m not complaining, I would rather see her little tongue than big tears. I am still crushing on her big blue eyes, I am such a sucker for blue eyes.. probably because mine are brown. One year olds are fast and unpredictable but one of my favourite ages to shoot.
